The Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for
the position of PROFESSOR AND CHAIR of the Department of Medicine. Applicants must be Board
certified in Internal Medicine, have demonstrated administrative experience and strong leadership skills,
have an outstanding record of accomplishment in research, desire for academic excellence, and have interest
in all aspects of teaching and patient care. Clinical facilities include a 553-bed university hospital, Ashley
River Tower (ART) 156-bed opened in February 2008 specializing in Heart and Vascular Disease, Digestive
Disease, and Cancer Care, and a 117-bed Veteran’s Administration Hospital.
The Department consists of 305 full time faculty and 11 divisions. The graduate medical education
program includes 208 total house staff; 40 interns, 85 residents and 83 fellows. The overall departmental
budget exceeds $90 million annually. It has 15 Endowed Chairs held by faculty.
The Medical University of South Carolina is in the midst of an exciting period of growth with recent NCI
designation for the Hollings Cancer Center, a newly funded CTSA grant, and new research buildings and
clinical outreach facilities under construction (to be completed in 2012). This is an outstanding

Research Assistant Professors
The Departments invite applications for three Research Assistant Professorships, starting in 2011. Applicants
should have (i) a PhD degree in physics, chemistry or electronic engineering; and (ii) research experience in
photovoltaic solar cells. Those with the following background are preferred:
• Device experience at both cell and module levels;
• Light management for PVs, e.g. expertise in solar concentrator and light trapping technology;
• Synthesis and processing of nano materials;
• Dye-sensitized solar cells.
The existing research and facilities are in inorganic thin film solar cells, nanostructure solar cells and organic
solar cells. The appointees will work closely with faculty members in the above Departments. He/she will be
expected to demonstrate a strong record of research accomplishments, potential for establishing significant
externally funded research programmes, and undertake light teaching duties at undergraduate and postgraduate
levels. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to mutual
agreement. Applications will be accepted until the posts are filled.

Salary will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a
